What should we do to help the shrew?

ok well my brother was walkin to the bus stop this morning and he noticed a small young looking shrew running around in circles out in the open. now it has been at least 7 hours and it was still there but just sitting and eating gr. we put it in a cup (caution of rabies) and it was not scared at all (not normal) it looked healthy and it hasnt shown any signs of gettin weaker and its eating and dopin good but what should we do? should we see if its ok over night and release it in the morning? im jus afraid it will get easlily eaten because it acts very strange. I think it may have eaten rat poisen from a garden or something because it does just run around in circles and doesnt act normal. so what should i do? i really want to help?
