Why is american football called football?

You run with the ball and you tackle. Ive never even seen a goal being kicked in movies. I dont understand it. Shouldnt it be called tackle ball or something? No im not a brit, but i agree with them calling soccer football more than grid iron football, they at least use their feet. Im australian and our football has a random shaped ball like yours, but we actually use our feet and kick goals, thats the aim of the game, the point making acts.
