Would more people have "survived" had Hitler not been or had medicine not been invented?

I tried comparing the number of people Hitler killed (just in Europe), and I found this number pretty easily. But how to find how many have died if medicine had not been invented? I would compare the infant mortality rates in 1700 or 1600 vs. 1900 (or 1890 when Hitler was born) as a conservative estimate. I realize that my two propositions are not mutually exclusive, but I am simply wondering..what if?
